Inspired by Lorca. Documentary
Inspired by Lorca. Inclusive theater project.
Documentary by: Cecilia Montagut
The filmmaker and psychologist Cecilia Montagut is the creator of this film about the theater workshop that users of the C.O. Taller Rafael carried out in 2016, together with students of the 1st-year of highschool at the Escuela Libre Micael. This group of 17 people worked for 9 days in an intensive and new theatrical experience directed by Laura Suárez (creator of the proposal), based on the work and life of Federico García Lorca. Through improvisations, each member contributed with their creativity towards a theatrical performance as its final outcome.
Through the images and testimonies, we will be able to appreciate how this artistic, pedagogic, and social project has influenced the lives of the participants, and left a mark in their personal development. The students recognise diversity, and the adults, an experience of equanimity which will serve as support in front of new challenges
In her documentary, Cecilia describes how the experience subverted the expectations she had of the project. “Laura, the project director, called me a couple of days before they started the workshop because at the last moment she had the idea of registering the work since she knew it was going to be something different”. Initially believing that she would meet two groups of people who were not going to mix with each other, she was surprised to find that as the hours and group-work went by, the participants gradually amalgamated to form a single group. Above all, instead of expressing fears and insecurities, the members of the C.O. Taller Rafael expressed the opposite. “As there was no script, I found myself at the work table with hours of material without knowing where to start. It was them who built this story.”
